What to ask before you rent a bus

On Behalf of | Apr 15, 2024 | Motor Vehicle Accidents

You may be planning an event that requires a bus. Maybe you have a family vacation coming up or want to rent a party bus to celebrate an event.

Most of us do not rent buses often, so you may be unfamiliar with how to research the best bus company. As you explore your options, there are some key questions you should ask before renting a bus.

Find out how long the bus company has been in service. Generally, a bus company with many years of experience and a good reputation is a better choice than a newer company.

Although a newer company could also be a good choice, knowing that the company has been around for years with little to no issues can provide you with a greater sense of security.

Maintenance and insurance

Ask how often the bus company maintains their buses. Federal and state laws require bus companies to perform regular safety inspections.

The bus company should be adhering to these regulations and be keeping a consistent maintenance and repair schedule. If they do not have a regular maintenance schedule, they are likely not a good pick.

Inquire about their insurance policy. Bus companies should have liability insurance that covers damage in case of an accident. Do not be afraid to ask to see a current copy of their insurance policy.

After reviewing the policy, ask about the procedure if the bus breaks down. A good bus rental company will provide you with access to professionals who can fix the problem for you as soon as possible or provide you with a replacement bus.

Ask to inspect the bus

You have a right to inspect the bus before you use it. Do not be afraid to ask the bus service to inspect the bus. Tell them what you plan to use it for and ask about any specific details you may need to consider for your bus ride.

During your inspection, review the amenities that are available. Having certain amenities if your bus ride is long will make the experience much more enjoyable. Wi-Fi capability, television and comfortable seats are common amenities on private buses today.

Bus companies should accommodate handicapped individuals, such as wheelchair access. Check that the bus is properly equipped and that these features are included in your rental agreement.

Refunds and cancellation

When reviewing the agreement, pay attention to language about the refund or cancellation policy. Life is unexpected and you may need to cancel your bus trip at the last minute.

If you have questions about the refund or cancellation policy, ask the bus company so there are no misunderstandings if you must cancel.

Make sure there are no hidden fees or costs. When you receive a quote, verify if this is the total for the entire trip.

It may be tempting to choose a cheaper bus company but you might be giving up safety and security. Spending a little extra for a quality can help prevent a bus accident that could leave you and your guests with serious injuries caused by someone else’s negligence.
