ABC News Segment About Nelene Fox and Denied Insurance

This ABC News segment tells the story of Nelene Fox, attorney Mark Hiepler‘s sister. His sister, Nelene Fox, was diagnosed with breast cancer in the early 1990s. The cancer spread to her bone marrow and her doctor recommended a bone marrow transplant in order to prevent the cancer from spreading further.

Although Nelene was approved for the bone marrow transplant, the insurance company denied her coverage for that treatment. Her insurer, Health Net, claimed that the treatment was “experimental.”

Even though the community raised money to get Nelene the transplant she needed, it was already too late. The cancer had spread to Nelene’s liver and she passed away in 1993.

Mark Hiepler brought a claim against the insurer for bad faith insurance practices. He won an $89.3 million jury verdict against the insurance company on behalf of his sister.

Since his sister’s passing, Mark Hiepler has helped countless victims of bad faith insurance practice hold insurance companies accountable for the harm they cause. If you have had treatment denied by your insurance company, call the law firm of Hiepler & Hiepler at 800-585-1101 or contact us by e-mail for a free consultation.
